Please mark your calendars for
September 10th and 11th because you
will not want to miss the 17th annual
Multi-County Cancer Support Network (MCCSN) Walk-a-thon.
This Walk-a-thon is the primary fundraiser for MCCSN. It
will again take place at the old Franklin County High School
football stadium at 6:30 p.m. This very important
fundraiser begins when cancer patients and survivors walk
the first lap as “Amazing Grace” is sung. Seeing these men
and women walk around the track reminds us all of the battle
that each of these individuals has fought or are continuing
to fight. Standing ovations are given to these brave men
and women as some are almost sprinting around the track and
others are pushed in wheelchairs by family members. All are
smiling as we detect determination in their spirit.
MCCSN is an organization formed to help
relieve the everyday crises of families touched by cancer in
an eight-county area including Franklin, Coffee, Moore,
Lincoln, Grundy, Marion, Warren, and Bedford. Financial aid
is provided to those qualifying as well as wheelchairs,
wigs, etc.
Teams are made up of 12 members that
each donate $50.00. These team members each receive a
T-shirt and a coupon booklet for snacks from the concession
stand. Hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza and many more food items
are for sale all through the night.
Team forms may be obtained from Carla
Glosson at the MCCSN office located at 110 E Lauderdale St.
in Tullahoma, TN or by calling 931-393-4443 or
1-800-497-4322. Survivors will receive their shirts free of
charge from the office in Tullahoma or from Janet Torstenson
at the Winchester Antique Mall
At 8:45 p.m. on 9/10, we will have a
candle lighting ceremony. Candles will be lit in honor of
cancer survivors and in memory of cancer victims. The
candles will be placed around the edge of the track and lit
in this special ceremony. Individuals that have passed away
during this past year will be remembered in the “Circle of
Light”. Those candle bags are placed in the center of the
football field. CYou may send the form to the MCCSN office
or get more information by calling Helen Rose @ 967-1205.
The fee for each candle is $10.00.
We ALL know someone whose life has been touched by cancer.
This is a great way to reach out and honor them as well as
others who are facing the battle of fighting cancer. Let’s
help those less fortunate than we by banding together for
this most worthwhile cause. Not only does the funding help
those in need, but we have a terrific time together! You
will not regret participating!
